Columbia Presbyterian Church
RCI Systems was contracted to design and install audiovisual systems for the 2011 renovation. The scope of work included the main Multipurpose Room and lobbies, the Community room, and several classrooms. The technology included audio systems, video systems and distributed A/V systems.
One of the main challenges of the Multipurpose Room is that the church uses it as a full-fledged gymnasium when not dedicated to services. Attention had to be paid to protecting equipment while still providing high quality audio and video capabilities.
The video system in the Multipurpose Room includes two ceiling mounted projectors with long throw lenses installed in protective cages. Two electric screens are positioned in the rafters to place them above the general path of projectiles. Computer sources can be plugged in at the stage or booth. The booth features monitors and a scaling switcher with distributed audio video to both projectors as well as front fill video monitors and stage video monitors. A remote pan/tilt/zoom camera is installed to capture services and presentations. This is combined with a Verizon cable TV feed and distributed to screens in the lobby, as well as the video systems in the Community room and Classrooms. The lobby screens also have a built in PC and software to provide a digital signage and messaging function when not used as overflow.
The heart of the audio system is a digital console with stage boxes and a digital snake to the control booth. An in-ear monitor system is provided and the video sources all feed the main and distributed sound systems. An EASE computer model was done to select the main speakers and provide accurate aiming and coverage calculations. The audio is distributed throughout the lobby and in the Cry room and Prayer room as well.
The Community room features a ceiling mounted projector and electric screen, as well as wall mounted speakers. A small rack houses the local mixer, digital signal processing and amplification. The classrooms also feature projectors and screens. These Classrooms and the Community room can choose local presentations, cable TV, or the camera and audio feed from the Multipurpose Room.
