2014 Kayak Whitewater World Championships
Challenge:
RCI Systems’ client needed to create an outdoor paging sound system to cover the audience and competition area for the 2014 Kayak Whitewater World Championships around a 270° 1/3 mile course, contending with ambient noise from audience and rushing water . The system needed to cover both a VIP audience inside the course and a larger audience outside the course. Interface with NBC Sports required coordinated wireless transmission of signals between control and speakers, and noise cancelling headsets for announcers to counter the time delay.
RCI Solution:
ASCI at Garrett County Maryland furnished 24’ telephones to specification, buried 4’ deep around the center of the island. RCI mounted both long-throw Community R2 speakers and Community R.25 short-throws to the poles at predetermined intervals to cover the dual audience areas. The system was designed by RCI to cover the entire area in “real time” negating the need for delay times or overlapping nodal distortion. Redundant wireless signal technology was used to transmit signal over 200’ from the announcers, background, and safety information originating in the Announcers’ Tower to the center of the island and the control position and the speakers in the center of the course.
